About Us

Pure Adventures believes the tourism industry has a responsibility to respect, protect and conserve the fragile environments it visits. Ecuador is an ecologically and culturally sensitive country and one of the most bio-diverse on the planet. Our aim is to protect this unique habitat by organising green tours that really are eco-friendly.

We are increasing awareness of environmental issues through our work within the industry, with tourists and the community. Through collaboration with hoteliers, restaurant owners, transport providers, local vendors, travellers, guides and conservation projects we are endeavouring to raise environmental standards and to lead by example by following our company policy of attainable sustainable tourism.

We envisage a tourist industry that actually helps; that has zero negative impact. Our goal is tourism that cares and educates

Leo Hickman in his book, The Final Call: In search of the true cost of our holidays, suggest a three bear approach to holidays which I thought was both pragmatic and sensible. He argues we should plan our holidays on a three year basis, with one year eating a small bowl by travelling to a local destination, which in Europe with our trains service could be as far a field as Southern Italy, the second year a medium sized bowl- say training it down to Spain and getting a boat across to Morocco, and only the third year take a big bowl and travel to an long distance destination- such as Ecuador. In effect we can save up our carbon footprint for one three yearly blow out.

Given the fact that most people want to travel and see wonderful environments this seemed to me to be a sensible approach.

Thanks for your comment. The greenest way to get to us is to pick up a sail boat and travel through the Panama Canal but this is not viable for people coming on a short trip as it takes several weeks.

For those who don't have super long holidays the best thing to do is to offset your flight carbon emissions with an organisation such as Climate Care and Carbon Neutral.

Being eco friendly before and during your holiday is of great importance. This includes for example not buying heavily packed new holiday products, removing and recycling packaging before you come. Making sure you have unplugged electrical devises you are leaving at home.
Long haul flights are at least more efficient per mile and short haul (extra fuel used during take off and landing makes up proportionately more in short flights)
